Lead is no longer added to petrol because it added to both air pollution and general health risks. It used to be added for help in maintaining the general "health" of an engine's valves as well as reducing engine knocking.
lead is not used in gasoline in the US anymore, so I think your question needs to be more location specific as I am pretty sure its not added to petrol in Canada and the EU.
It is extremely unlikely to find Iodine in petrol/gasoline. It is not deliberately added. Bromine used to be added in the form of Lead Tetrabromide.
can content in petrol if not unleaded
Unleaded petrol is petrol that has not been treated with a lead compound.
Lead was added to petrol as an anti-knock agent to improve engine performance. It prevented engine knocking or pinging, which is a metallic pinging noise that can occur in an engine when fuel ignites unevenly. Lead was phased out of petrol due to its harmful effects on human health and the environment.
lead compounds are harmful if added to petrol as it cause cancer, poison the catalytic converter (use to convert harmful gases into less harmful gases/harmless, emmision of greenhouse gases and increase the amount of oxides of nitrogen which results in acid rain.
Antiknock additives like tetraethyllead (TEL) or methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl (MMT) are added to petrol to prevent engine knocking. These compounds increase the octane rating of petrol, reducing the likelihood of premature ignition in the engine.
TEtro-Ethel Lead (spelling errors my fault) was added to fuel to increase octane. This reduced pre ignition also known as ping.
Petrol already has additives added, whereas, oil is not processed.
in petrol we have 2 types.they are 1.leaded petrol 2.unleaded petrol in leaded petrol we have lead compounds so we call it as leaded petrol. in unleaded petrol we do not have lead compounds. the use or advantage of unleaded petrol is it does not emit harmful gases in to the environment. but leaded petrol emits harmful gases. cracking process takes place in unleaded petrol. cracking means it is a process of converting harmful gases into harmless gases. but this cracking process cannot be done in leaded petrol bcoz lead compounds decomposes the catylsts used in cracking process
lead free petrol....
