Top Gear of course
I usually point the marks exactly at each other, but since the little gear turns TWICE as fast as the big gear, one revolution of causes the timing marks to alternate between pointing directly toward each other and both timing marks being at "twelve o-clock". If you have any concerns, connect a starter and see what the compression is. If you have good compression, it's right. NO to start with get your #1 cyl. at top dead center on comp. stroke then set crank gear at 12 o'clock and cam gear at 6 o'clock (marks pointing at each other) other wise your timing will be way off and cause major problems
Any engine will run if the timing is only a tooth out of time. It just won't run well. It probably will have no power, or run rough.
Top Gear - magazine - was created in 1993.
Top Gear. Hmm... I guess it is a docucomedy about cars.
The cam gear is on top/ and the crank gear is on top. Both at 12:00.
right behind the top timing gear
AnswerON THE TOP GEAR, NOTCH ON BOTTOM. ON THE BOTTOM GEAR, NOTCH ON TOP.You really need a manual for the engine in question so you know exactly where the timing marks must be. The above answer may not be correct for all engines.
Timing marks are on the top of the timing gear rear cover. With the cover off, these marks will line up with the timing marks on the intake and exhaust gears when the crankshaft gear timing mark faces down to its mark at the bottom. Good luck!
They are on the top timing gear with a mark on the side of it and also on the bottom one on the side
the top timing gear has a dot the case has a line line them up same for the bottom the chain is to be connected on the top mark.the valves will need to be adjusted if adjust the timing the front valve is the exhaust the rear valve is the intake. this is not correct answer. there is 3 timing marks on the magneto, and two ways to set the top gear....help !!!
The timing chain is located on the front of the engine behind the water pump. The top gear is the camshaft and the bottom is the crankshaft.
The top timing mark is a notch on the head. It lines up with an arrow on one of the O's cut out in the timing gear. The bottom timing mark is on the crankshaft gear and it lines up with a mark on the oil pump housing.
The timing mark on the top gear should be at 06:00, while the timing mark on the bottom gear should be at 12:00. IOW, they "point to each other" Good luck!
No it is a gear to gear timing system.
The crank gear dot should be at 12 o'clock stright up when #1 pistion is all the way to the top of the cylinder. The cam gear dot should be at 6 o'clock stright over top of the crank gear dot. Then put it back together.
The crank gear should be in the 12: oclock position & the cam gear should be in the 6: oclock position facing each other this is top dead center on compression stroke.
