In September 1940, a group of teenagers was wandering in the woods when the dog of one of them chased a rabbit into a small opening, into a larger hole left by an uprooted fallen tree. The dog's owner, Marcel Rabidat, thought it was the opening of an underground passage to a nearby castle and went back on the 12th of September, with three other teenagers. They enlarged the opening and slipped inside the cave with a lamp.
