The major crash of the stock marketin Wall Street, and bank failures, factors contributing to the great depression, had much impact on many countries and and its people, Australia being one of them. Many were left with no jobs, and no jobs means no money, no money means no food, no home. 1932 was the worst year of the depression for Australia, and it was a time of desperation; unemployed people became beggars, were traumatised, accepted any kind of job, went through poverty, divised short term solutions that didn't last long, men were laboured, people who did occupy a job were underpaid, people sold their possessions, their land, lived in camps, worked in unpleasant sweatshop conditions, fled before rent/board pay was due and had rations. These were coupons or tickets, used in exchange for food; milk, bread and cereal. THis time was known to Australians as 'living on the susso'. Many were left homeless. It was an awful time and hopefully it won't happen again.
The Depression did have some sort of effect on the African Americans, but not as much as the White people. During the Great Depression, the African Americans explored more in the arts and literature part of life. They introduced a new type of music to the world... Jazz. They had been somewhat succesful during this time.
