Well, there are lots of reasons, but look at it first from their (Indians) point of view. They saw the colonists, the Americans, as invaders. Yes, some Indians and colonists co-existed peacefully, but not on the whole. The white man believed he was entitled to this land by Manifest Destiny, and thus the Indians were savages, below and beneath the white man. Who wouldn't want to fight against these people? They were trying to take their land, kill them, kill their way of life, of course they helped the British! The British (also white men) said they'd give the land back to the Indians if they won!
Many decided to stay neutral because they knew one side would win and they didn't want that side to retaliate against them. The English and French all ready treated them horribly and took lands, killed them, raped the women, and burned villages so there was no trust between them.
In the 1800's
There were 1,300 British Troops and Militia against 637 Native Americans, 146 French Militia and 108 troupes de la Marine.
The Iroquois Indians helped the French capture many British forts during the war. They also helped ambush British forces. The British may have had help from Indians also, but I'm not sure.
Because it was French money, and the French navy, that helped the American Colonials win their Revolution against the British and gain their Independence.
The British, French, Americans, and Native Americans. Many of the Native Americans fought with the French. The French had settled with many of the Northeastern tribes through the years as fur trappers and they had a relationship with them. The British had treated the tribes as interlopers on their own lands. Americans, like George Washington, fought under the British flag and as a British officer. In fact, it was Washington that fired the first shots of the war.
