Pea soup was a traditional food eaten regularly as well as tourtieres or meat pies. The habitants grew wheat for bread, barley, oats, vegetables such as peas, beans, onions, carrots, cucumbers and fruit. The habitants ate bacon, pork, chicken, venison, moose, wild ducks, geese and a variety of fish. The habitants drank milk, apple cider, and homemade beer. A favourite dessert was maple sugar pie.
