In the beloved 1939 film version of 'The Wizard of Oz', the Cowardly Lion is a figment of Dorothy Gale's imagination. He occurs in the riotously colorful dream sequence of the movie. But his character is based on a character that Dorothy knows in her real life back in Kansas. And that character is the farmhand Zeke.
None of the three ( friendly Monster) characters ( i have coined the term for lack of a better word) has a given name, like say Brainiac or something like that. the actor involved in the Cowardly Lion role was, of course, Bert Lahr. one might argue there is something of a corny allegory like (Pilgrim"s Progress) or some allegorical yarns of the middle ages, where characters were in third-person quotation marks and really did not have distinct personalities- or for example, the fictional ( there is no proof it really occured except as a moral lesson)- Biblical Tale of the Good Samnaritan where there are three characters and their responses to the same problem, a man assaulted and beaten on the road, or as we would now say, a Mugging victim.
The Lion's tail was moved by my grandfather, Jack Ackerman, (uncredited) using a fishing line from above the sound stage.
He doesn't have a name per-say, his name is specifically 'Cowardly Lion', and has not been given another name it seems.
Because he was a lion and scared of everything.
Bert Lahr is it i believe.

In the original 1900 book edition of 'The Wizard of Oz', the Cowardly Lion is called just the Cowardly Lion. But the Cowardly Lion takes on two personalities in the beloved 1939 film version. In the Oz dreamland sequence, the Lion is the Lion. But in the Kansas sequences, he is the farmhand Zeke of Kansas.
