No mother and daughter have won competitive Oscars for acting. But Liza Minnelli received the 1972 Best Actress award for her performance in "Cabaret," 33 years after her mother, Judy Garland, was presented a special 1939 Juvenile Oscar for "The Wizard of Oz."

They did not become a couple until recently, but Sean Penn and Charlize Theron won Academy Awards on the same night -- February 29, 2004. Penn received the 2003 Best Actor award for his performance in the Clint Eastwood-directed drama "Mystic River." Theron won the 2003 Best Actress Oscar for her portrayal of real-life serial killer Aileen Wuornos in "Monster."

There have been several couples nominated for Oscars in the same year. In 1996, Frances McDormand won the 1996 award for Best Actress in "Fargo," while husband Joel Cohen shared the screenwriting award for the same movie with brother Ethan. Also, husband-and-wife producers Michael and Julia Phillips shared the 1973 Best Picture Oscar for "The Sting" with Tony Bill.

Songwriters Alan and Marilyn Bergman won three Academy Awards -- two for Best Original Song ("The Windmills of Your Mind" and "The Way We Were") and one for Best Original Score ("Yentl"). More recently, the husband-and-wife songwriting team of Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez shared the Best Original Song Oscar for "Let It Go" from "Frozen."

Will Oscars eat their on and should they be separated?

A pair of Oscars will often eat their first few spawnings. They will usually get it right eventually. The biggest problem is making sure you have a Male/female pair. Two females will often get together and go through all the mating ritualsand lay heaps of ova only to eat them or watch them go white.

How long do Oscars mate for?

A pair of Oscars can mate for life (up to 20 years) if they are not separated somehow. They do tend to slow down as they age though and in my experience loose their fecundity somewhat once they are over 15 years old.

Why does a pair of scissors have two fulcrums?

I think they only have one, the pivot point where the two blades are joined. Mechanically, scissors are a first-class double-lever with the pivot acting as the fulcrum.

What can you do to make your Oscars to mate?

No one can make Oscars mate. Oscars need to be mature and in breeding condition and must also be in a very large tank. They also need to choose their own mate. Sometimes two females will spawn together so their owner thinks they are a pair and then wonders why the eggs never develop into fry. There is no known way to sex Oscars other than by an expert 'venting' them no matter what other people say. Oscars are one of the fish that come under the category of having "No sexual dimorphism".
