Answer #1 Following some confusion in the balloon incident - in my mind the weakest end of the plot, now we would use teleportation a la Star Trek - Dorothy finds herself at home in bed. The resolution is the whole thing was a nightmare. Therefore, it is pure fantasy and this explains why there was no filmic sequel. If it never happened, why try a re-take? Answer #2The main conflict, the main dilemma to be resolved in The World of Oz is getting Dorothy and Toto back home. An unsuccessful attempt is made to do so with the planned hot air balloon departure of the Wizard, Toto, and Dorothy. But Toto jumps out of the basket at the last minute, Dorothy takes off after her to catch her and bring her back into the basket, and the balloon takes off with just the Wizard on board. But all's not lost. For Glinda the Good Witch of the South comes to the rescue. She tells Dorothy that the little girl has had the power to go back home from the very first day in the Land of Oz. For the Silver Slippers of the Wicked Witch of the East hold a secret power. They will do whatever the wearer asks as long as the wearer has the shoes on, claps the heels together three times, and says the request out loud. Dorothy does so, and in three big long strides she and Toto are back home. In addition, there are other minor conflicts and dilemmas, which also get resolved. For example, the Wizard gets to leave; the Tin Woodman gets a heart, the Scarecrow gets a brain, and the Cowardly Lion gets courage; and the Munchkins and the Winkies get freed from the Wicked Witches of the West and of the East, respectively.

In the original 1900 book edition, and the beloved 1939 film version, 'The Wizard of Oz' is resolved with Dorothy Gale and her pet dog Toto getting back to Kansas. The Wizard tries to achieve that purpose by inviting her to go back in his hot air balloon. But Toto jumps out, Dorothy gives chase, and the balloon takes off before either can get back into the basket.

So it's Glinda the Good Witch who helps Dorothy and Toto get back. She lets Dorothy know that the way is through the slippers of the Wicked Witch of the East. Dorothy has only to click the slippers' heels together and state her wish, which will be granted.
