The Mesopotamians worshiped many god for different things, say, for flooding or basket weaving. In each city-state, there was a ziggurat, which means "mountain of god" or "hill of heaven". There were hundreds of Mesopotamian gods. The most well known ones are Tiamat, Marduk, Ishtar and Enkil.

Here's a look at three of the first blood suckers… Akasha The queen of the vampires in The Vampire Chronicles by the amazing author Anne Rice. In the novels when Akasha was human she was originally from Uruk, or modern-day Iraq. She rose to become a Queen in Kemet, the land that would eventually become Egypt, her king Enkil ruled beside her. She was the first of the vampires and the creation of vampires was brought on by a bloodthirsty spirit. When Akasha was assassinated, the spirit Amel joined with Akasha's soul as it rose from her body, re-entering her body through her wounds and fusing with her heart and brain to create an entirely new creature, and the vampire was born. Varnae Varnae is a vampire in the Marvel Comics universe. He was a sorcerer in ancient Atlantis who was a member of the cult of the Darkholders. The other Darkholders used the Darkhold tome to transform Varnae into the Earth's very first vampire. He then turned on them when they tried to use him as a weapon against their enemy, King Kull. Varnae then became the Lord of the Vampires. Lilith Lilith is believed by some to be Adam's wife before Eve, she was said to be created the same time as Adam. But she didn't submit to Adam's will and was banished from the Garden of Eden. After that she went bad and when she wasn't having demon babies with the devil she was said to prey on sleeping women and children, draining them of blood, making her the first vampire.
