The Houston Oilers moved to Tennessee and became the Tennessee Oilers for the 1997 season. The team changed their name from Oilers to Titans in 1999.

Houston Oilers
The Houston Texans play in Houston Texas. In addition the Tennessee Titans used to play in Houston when they were known as the Oilers, from 1960-1996.
The Oilers wanted a new stadium in Houston, and when Tennessee offered to build one, they took the offer. Houston subsequently built Reliant Stadium and the Houston Texans were founded.
In 1997, the Houston Oilers moved from the city of Houston, Texas to the city of Nashville, Tennessee and they are now known as the Tennessee Titans.
Because the two teams are the same organization - the Titans began as the Houston Oilers for the period 1960-96; they moved to Tennessee in 1997 and changed their uniforms and name in 1999.
They moved the team to Tennessee after Houston didn't want to build them a new stadium and became the Tennessee Titans.
