When did the internet begin to enter homes?

Depending on your point of view, the internet was created Sept 1, 1969 when Arpanet was used to link university computers, or January 1, 1983 which was the day computer systems on the ARPANET were required to switch over to the TCP/IP protocol. This is not to be confused with the World Wide Web, which required a protocol (HTTP - hypertext transfer protocol) and a browser.

In 1991 a computer programmer in Switzerland introduced the World Wide Web. Researchers at the University of Illinois in 1992 developed the browser called Mosaic which became Netscape. This was a user friendly way to search the web. It allowed users to see words and pictures on the same page for the first time and had clickable links.
