What a complete, and stupid answer. I am Seminole, and I'm very offended. The actual answer is the Seminoles lost the Second Seminole War, but still some of the tribe still remains in Florida. The rest is in Oklahoma. November 1842 is the exact answer when they finally surrendered. No more stupid answers please.
Part of it is: The leader, Osceola, called to his followers and told them to go against the Indian Removal Act and the Second Seminole War was started. Osceola was taken prisoner and he died while he was a captive. About 4,000 Seminole Indians were removed from Florida and a few hundred of them were killed. Over time, the U.S. decided to stop trying to remove them so some small groups of Seminole Indians managed to stay in Florida. Plus some Seminole Indian descendants live in Florida currently.

The Seminole Indian war chief Osceola (born Billy Powell) led his tribes fight against being removed from Florida. He was famous because he was one of the leaders of the Seminole Tribes during the second war during the 1830s in the United States. According to legend, Osceola stabbed the Treaty of Payne's Landing with his knife, refusing to agree to give up the Seminole lands. That is probably one reason why he is famous.
