The wreck of the cruise ship RMS Titanic, which sank after hitting an iceberg on April 14, 1912, was located on the ocean bottom on September 1, 1985. The discovery was made by the teams led by Dr. Robert Ballard and French oceanographer Jean-Louis Michel aboard the ships Knorr and Le Suroit.

The Titanic was found on July 1st, 1985. It was discovered by Robert Ballard. They have gotten lots of artifacts from it that they are lucky to have. This is a topic that is very emotional for me. I cant believe all the people that died in it.

Wreck found by Dr Ballard in 1985 - North Atlantic approx 450 miles short of her destination of New York.
Using sonar, Dr Robert Ballard located the Titanic about 3,600 metres deep in the North Atlantic Ocean on 1 September 1985.
The wreck was found in September, 1985 by teams led by Dr. Robert Ballard. This was some 73 years after the Titanic sank (having struck an iceberg on April 14, 1912), claiming the lives of more than 1500 passengers.
