A rectifier.
There are lots of diodes - a "diode" is simply a device that has two electrical connections. If you refer specifically to the rectifying diode, it is used to convert AC current to DC current - so, it is used in a circuit that has BOTH AC and DC.
I would assume that you mean what devices do you use to convert ac current to dc current? The answer is Diodes.seediode-bridge
A rectifier, typically called a diode. It stops reverse current flow and only allows current to flow in one direction. 4 diodes are used for what is called "Full wave rectification". Along with a capacitor and a choke (or coil), almost pure DC can be achieved.
A generator is used to convert mechanical energy to electrical energy. An oscillator is used to convert dc to ac
A bridge rectifier, is a group of rectifiers (4 in a single phase) wired so that each half of an AC current is passed to respective positive and negative lines of a DC output. It provides full wave rectification of AC into DC.
A device called an inverter is used to convert direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC). The inverter switches the direction of the current flow at a rapid rate, creating an alternating current output from the direct current input.
A "Rectifier" converts AC current to pulsating DC current.
No, alternating current (AC) can also be used to charge batteries using a charger that converts AC to DC. The charger will convert the AC power from the outlet to DC power that is suitable for charging the battery.
its convert to ac current to dc current

its commutator..which converts ac produced by and motor to pulsating dc ... more the commutator divide more accurate dc..means less pulse in dc
By using rectification we can convert the AC into DC....

Transformer are passive devices thattransform AC to AC by magnetics and coupling. DC IS UNIDIRECTIONAL it does not change POLARITY. While it is possible to saturate a transformer primary it output cannot reflect the change since it has reached steady state
Invertor
DC current is not used in home wiring. It may be used to power a door bell, alarm system, under counter lights, etc, that uses a transformer powered by AC that converts the power to DC. Other than that homes are wired for AC current only.
The split rings cause the direction of the magnetic field in the armature to change direction as the motor rotates. If this didn't happen the motor would not rotate. Slip rings can be used for an AC motor which causes the direction of the magnetic field to change with the AC waveform.
