There are lots of diodes - a "diode" is simply a device that has two electrical connections. If you refer specifically to the rectifying diode, it is used to convert AC current to DC current - so, it is used in a circuit that has BOTH AC and DC.
Diodes are used with AC current to change it to DC current.
yes
Special diode does special function. Diodes are originally used to rectify ac current into dc current . Other versions of diodes are constructed in a similar way using the same principles but their function is not rectification such as light emmision diode
Bridge rectifiers are used in alternators and other electronic equipment that needs full DC current and can be bought at local electronic stores as well as the internet. Radio shack sells them also. A bridge rectifier is a 2 or 4 rectifiers that rectify AC current into DC. A full wave bridge usually consists of 4 diodes that rectify both the negative and positive swings of the AC current into DC. With the proper center wound transformer, only 2 diodes are needed. Search Google for a "full wave rectifier" diagram!!!
because it is an alternating wave and it has no dc value on it.In RC circuit the capacitor blocks only dc values and it allows all ac values so the wave shape is preserved
In DC inductor is short circuited .
rectifier circuit convert ac to dc signal
Diodes are used after a center-tapped transformer in a DC to AC inverter to rectify the alternating current (AC) output of the transformer into pulsating direct current (DC). This rectified voltage is then smoothed using filters to produce a more stable DC waveform. The diodes act as one-way valves, allowing current to flow in only one direction, thus converting the AC voltage into a pulsating DC voltage.
This is used to improve the input power factor of the inverter power supply and reduce harmonics. The ''DC reactor'' is more effective than the input reactor in improving the power factorDC reactors (link chokes) are connected after the input diodes in the power circuit. One of the disadvantage of the DC reactors is they are located after the input diodes, and do not protect the diodes from possible voltage transients. One coil is needed in a DC circuit versus 3 coils in the AC circuit. Additionally DC reactors smoothing the current flow limits the high peak current pulses from abusing the capacitor bank inside the converter.
diodes conduct electricity in only one direction but as ac change direction in each of its cycle diodes can only conduct half of its cycle which will give u a pulsating dc. but if dc is mixed with ac and if it can put whole of its cycle in positive direction diode can conduct ac. so diodes are usually used to produce dc from ac.
Direct Current or DC
as diode allows current to flow only in one direction . it is highly used in the conversion ac to dc power supply as in chargers, voltage converters... also used in circuit isolation, as it does not work in reverse biased mode.
Dc Power Supplies converts AC to DC Two Main types 1)Linear : A simple circuit with diodes and capacitors 2)Switched Mode: sampling technique is used to convert AC to DC.
Junction diodes are used for rectifying ac into dc.
The purpose of a diode is to direct the flow of current in a circuit. Diodes function by allowing current flow in only one direction (acting as a short when current is applied at one end) and resisting current flow from the opposite direction (acting as an open circuit). Electronic devices such as full wave rectifiers use a series of diodes to convert AC to DC current.
dc supply is used for control circuit because dc current is an independent source .
Diodes only allow the current to travel in one direction, they are often used to prevent current leakage from one point to another, "basically the current can back up and go into other parts of the circuit without the diode. If a Diode is placed in Series with a circuit it will only allow the current to flow in one direction. For instance in Power supplies that convert AC electricity to DC they use a special diode Called a bridge Rectifier, Basically it used 4 Diodes in series to smooth out and condition the power so that when it comes out it is only Positive and Negative Diodes are also Half wave, meaning that only half of an AC cycle will come out the result is an Oscillating DC. So when a Diode is in Parallel with a component it is either Bypassing that component in one direction or it is disallowing the current to flow Backward on the component..
Capacitance will block DC
