The University of Georgia just had expelled the dashing Tarleton twin brothers, Stuart and Brent, in the beginning pages of 'Gone with the Wind'. It was the fourth university to have done so in two years. The other three were the University of Virginia, then the University of Alabama, and the University of South Carolina. Older brothers, Tom and Boyd Tarleton, had the exact same record, but by choice. They both refused to stay where they felt their irrepressible younger brothers to be unwelcome.

It was the beginning of a downward spiral for the wealthy, landowning family. Neither one of the charming brothers succeeded in wrenching Scarlett O'Hara's stubborn heart away from Ashley Wilkes. Both brothers ended up dying brave deaths on a battlefield in the War between the States.
