Her maternal grandfather was of German descent on both sides (Pfeffer, Schunke), by way of Texas. The rest is reallydiverse. The DeGeneres line is French, of course; they were wealthy landowners who fled Haiti and settled in Virginia; technically, they would be considered French Creole. She is descended from a number of other famous colonial Virginia and Maryland families (Dulany, Tasker, Neale, Marye, Rozier, French, Bennett). Her 7th-great grandfather, Benjamin Tasker, Sr., was a provincial governor of Maryland. Her paternal grandmother seems to be half French Creole (Martin), and half Irish (Dickson) and her paternal great-grandmother (Bilieu) is probably of French Creole ancestry, also. I haven't identified any clearly Acadian/Cajun surnames in her family tree, but I wouldn't be surprised to find one, as her family has been in Louisiana for several generations. One obscure branch of her ancestry goes back to colonial Connecticut (Whittemore, Fosdick, Pickett, Pratt, Wright, Turner) and leads back to William Brewster of the Mayflower.
