No human being has visited another planet yet. The only extraterrestrial object which has been visited by humans is our moon, which was "visited" (walked upon) by the following astronauts:

Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, Pete Conrad, Alan Bean, Alan Shepard, Edgar Mitchell, David Scott, James Erwin, John W. Young, Charles Duke, Eugene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt.

24 NASA astronauts have traveled to the Moon, but only 12 walked on the lunar surface.

During 6 lunar landing operations, 12 astronauts walked on the Moon :

  • Apollo 11 (1969) - Neil Armstrong, Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin
  • Apollo 12 (1970) - Charles "Pete" Conrad, Alan Bean
  • Apollo 14 (1971) - Alan Shepard, Edgar Mitchell
  • Apollo 15 (1971) - David Scott, James Irwin
  • Apollo 16 (1972) - John Young, Charles Duke
  • Apollo 17 (1972) - Eugene Cernan, Harrison "Jack" Schmitt

In addition, each of the six had a Command Module pilot who orbited the moon. All three members of the crew of Apollo 13 circled the Moon after a space accident prevented a landing. Apollo missions 8 and 10 each had three astronauts on "practice missions" which orbited but also did not send anyone down to the surface.

This makes a total of 27 crew but only 24 astronauts, as three were multiple visitors. James Lovell was aboard Apollo 8's first moon visit, and Apollo 13's orbit-only. Young and Cernan were on Apollo 10 but later had their own lunar excursions on Apollo 16 and 17.

In orbit around the Moon :

  • Apollo 8 : Frank Borman, James Lovell, William Anders
  • Apollo 10 : Thomas Stafford, John Young, Eugene Cernan
  • Apollo 11 (Command module) - Michael Collins
  • Apollo 12 (Command module) - Richard Gordon
  • Apollo 13 : James Lovell, Jack Swigert, Fred Haise
  • Apollo 14 (Command module) - Stuart Roosa
  • Apollo 15 (Command module) - Alfred Worden
  • Apollo 16 (Command module) - Ken Mattingly
  • Apollo 17 (Command module) - Ronald Evans
