The high five is often attributed to the Los Angeles Dodgers Baseball player Glenn Burke, who is said to have popularized the gesture in the late 1970s. During a game in 1977, Burke celebrated a home run by slapping hands with teammate Dusty Baker, leading to the iconic gesture we know today. While there are other claims about its origins, Burke's story remains the most recognized.
