There is almost certainly no record of this. The Big Dipper is part of Ursa Major and the Little Dipper is Ursa Minor. Given the latin names and the fact that both are easily visible with the naked eye means that they would have been discovered millenia ago.

because when he looked at the sky he saw the stars he connected the stars and he connected one and he called it big dipper because he was the first one to discover the big dipper.

The Irish thought the Big Dipper looked like a plow, which they associated with agriculture and the harvest season. They saw the pattern as a symbol of fertility and abundance in their folklore.
In Greek mythology, the Big Dipper is associated with the story of Callisto, a nymph who was transformed into a bear by Zeus' jealous wife, Hera. Zeus placed Callisto in the sky after her death to protect her from Hera's wrath. The stars that form the Big Dipper are said to represent the bear's tail and hind legs.
Well hello there, my friend! You know, there's so much beauty in the universe, even beyond what our eyes can see. Ancient people looked up in the sky and imagined patterns in the stars. They saw a pattern of fairly bright stars in the shape of a dipper, although some people saw the shape of a large bear. In England, people made stories about the wagon that carried King Charles to his execution, and named it Charles' Wain.Officially, the name of the constellation is Ursa Major, or "Great Bear".But there isn't actually anything there in the sky except scattered stars. We IMAGINE the patterns. But human beings instinctively try to make patterns out of what we see.
He is not real sorry!

Ara is the constellation that is known as the Altar, which comes from various ideas from Greek mythology. The Altar was associated with some sacrifices made in various Greek stories.
The formation Ursa Major (Latin for "Big Bear") is better known today as The Big Dipper because its shape resembles a water dipper: four stars form the scoop and three others form the handle. Many ancient civilizations though saw the shape as delineating the body of a bear, an animal most of them would have been very familiar with. That interpretation has been found as far back as paleolithic times, and in places as widely separated as Germany and the American Southwest.
What we see as constellations is actually a 2-dimensional projection of the different stars in the galaxy. In ancient times, people saw patterns in the sky and so we got constellations. The constellation of Hercules was listed by Ptolemy but it is unknown who first named the constellation.
The arctic got its name from the constellation Ursa Major, also known as the"Great Bear". The Big Dipper is the tail of the "bear". It is the most prominant constellation in the Northern Hemisphere. Arctic is actually from the Latin Arcticus which in turn comes from the Greek work arkitikus which means Northern Bear. The Greek word for bear is Arktos and so Northern Bear referred to what they saw when they gazed towards the northern heavens. Originally the Arctic was any area situated under, the northern constellation called the Bear (Ursa Major), science has since of course given us more accurate definitions. Arctic now means anything north of latitude 66° 32 N. Antarctic is of course anti-arctic the "opposite" of artcic. A) Aries B) Sagittarius C) Ursa Major
