It was prince Henry the Navigator. There was a Dutch prince with the same (nick)name in the 19th century, but the most famous prince Henry was the Portuguese prince living from 1394-1460 who stimulated and financed Portugal's discovery travels to the African West Coast.

Despite his name, he never took part in any of the exploration voyages but stayed safely in Portugal.
