The allusion to the story is a story of life. Its relates to how Jesus lived his life and what were the struggles he had to go through. Aslan was Jesus and Edward was Judas, The White Witch was the Devil, and Father Christmas was God in the story. Aslan had to give up his life in order to save Edward just like Jesus had to give up his life for us. "The Chronicles of Narnia" are an allegory of the New Testament in the Christian Bible. He represents the figure of Jesus Christ in the "Narnia" books and movies. The lion fights the witch (who is Satan) and is tied down, sheared, and killed to save his people, in the same way that Christ dealt with Satan in the wilderness, had his beard plucked from his face, and was killed as a lamb to the slaughter. However, like Christ Himself, the lion rose again, and appeared to his people as a risen Savior.

It was a war. I think it may have been WWI. The children used the wardrobe to hide. At least that is what I get from the movie. In the books they lived next door to the house with the wardrobe but i cannot remember why they went next door to enter the wardrobe.
They are evacuated for the 2nd world war to a home in the country and whilst playing hide and seek Lucy finds the wardrobe. When she gets back, no one believes her about it. When they through a ball through a window, they have to hide in the wardrobe and they discover Narnia. Little do they know that they have a quest to complete in order to banish the white witch forever. But who is this mysterious Aslan whom they must bring back to Narnia?
Lucy climbs into the wardrobe again because she wants to see Mr. Tumness again. Also, she goes back so she can confirm to herself that she was not simply imagining this other world.
Storywise, the world of Narnia came into creation in 1900. The Pevensies enter it around 1943. C.S. Lewis wrote "Wardrobe" in 1950. All seven books were finished in 1952, however, Lewis only released one per year. Lewis died on November 22, 1963.
