The social order of India is predominatly that men will go out and get jobs and provide a source of income for the family, so it's seen as a good "investment" for the family. While on the other hand, woman commonly aren't expected to get jobs, they would stay home and cook and clean. But that is changing in India, many more women are getting jobs and getting an income.
