Conductors are insulated to prevent the escape of energy from within them. Without insulators, the conductors will usually release energy into the surrounding substance, unless that substance acts as an insulator. This answer is the result of recollection of a KS3 (high school) science class, and, although quite vague, it is a good outline. It will be useful to search "conductors and insulators" in a search engine, as there will be much more information provided.

It depends on which types of conductors are you talking about---I would think heat conductors. Then they are used in industries, cooking, etc.Electric conductors are used in electroplating, cooking in ovens, your computers and other electronics.

The purpose of insulation is to insulate the wire from the rest of the world. This prevents faulting or shorting of wires to ground / other wires/ whatever else you can think of. It is true that insulation is placed on low voltage wiring for this purpose, but overhead conductor is very often bare - the "insulation" used is the air, which is why wiring is placed so far apart.

It may be worth noting that insulation, which is very often plastic or a special type of rubber, DOES NOT do anything for electromagnetic interference. Building a Faraday cage is about the only way to do this, or increase the distance away from the transmission line. This is why, in coax cable, the "ground" is the aluminum looking wrapping inside the black insulation. Surrounding the signal wire (center wire) with a thin bit of metal provides a Faraday cage, effectively eliminating spurious signals from contaminating the signal wire.

For most conductors as their temperature increases their resistance?

The resistance of pure metallic conductors increases with temperature, because the resistivity of these conductors increase with temperature.

What is the similarities between conductors and insulators?

Conductors and insulators are different and simalar in many ways. Two ways they are simallar are they both have electrons and have something to do with electricity.Three ways they are different that conductors let heat and electricity go through it .On the other hand insulators do not let heat or electreicity go through it easily.Another way is conductors transfer eelectrons easily but meanwhile the insulator psses on electrons with difficulty. One last thing is that conductors are not current but insulators are current. What are bundled conductors?

High-voltage transmission line conductors are 'bundled' -that is, each 'line' comprises two or more conductors, rather than a single conductor, suspended from each insulator chain. The reason for bundling is to reduce the intensity of the electric field on the surface of the conductors (the same field is shared between the surfaces of several, rather than just one, conductors), which would otherwise result in a breakdown of the insulating property of the air immediately surrounding a single conductor. In the UK, 400-kV transmission lines use a bundle of four conductors per line, and 275-kV transmission lines use a bundle of two.

What is the Difference between air insulated substation and gas substation?

Air insulated means the substation is in the open air, and the dielectric strength of the air is used to isolate conductors from each other and from ground. Gas insulated means a specific gas is used for insulation; this gas is usually an inert gas such as nitrogen. Gas insulated substations, by definition, are required to be inside a contained structure, or large piping must be placed around all conductors to hold the gas.

Difference between a bare conductor and a insulated conductor?

A bare conductor is a conductor that does not have any type of insulation covering it. Insulated conductors (also known as coated) have a covering that protects them from outside sources.

What is zip cord?

Zip cord is a type of plastic insulated wire having 2 or more conductors. These conductors can be easily separated by manually "unzipping" the cord along a molded indentation between conductors. Zip cord with a large number of conductors is usually called ribbon cable.

What is the difference between thhn and romex?

THHN is a heat resistant thermoplastic insulated conductor, usually a single conductor. Romex is a brand name for a nonmetallic sheathed cable, it has multiple conductors inside, the insulated ones are insulated with THHN insulation.
