Yes, they really do send blunt sword-like objects down their throats.
In the circus, there are jugglers/ clowns, trapeze artists, animal acts (which I believe is animal cruelty) and tightrope walkers. I haven't been to a circus in 10 years, so i hardly remember. I hope this helped though! Signed AquaMoon There might also be magicians, escape artists, and performers who do stunts such as knife-throwing, sword swallowing, and fire-breathing. And don't forget about the ringmaster!

P.T. Barnum started the first circus sideshow back in the 1800s. He started with a dime-museum (that's where you'd find the Feejee mermaid) and then eventually moved on to incorporating "live" acts (sword swallowers, human "oddities", etc.)

Under the big top. Is where the big show is.When they had the old traveling circus. They had the side shows.Like bearded ladies and the hoochie coochie dancing girls and the sword swallowers. These were in the smaller tents surrounding the big top. Then that's where the big show happened.High wire acts. Lion tamers. Trained wild animals. Jugglers and clowns. Trapeeze acts. Human cannon balls. If you had a great act you could make it to the big top you were on top. If not you were a side show act.Under the Big Top can refer to a circus.Under the big top is used to talk about a circus. Usually, circus acts are done under a canopy or tent. The canopy or tent are the big top.Under the big top means at the fair. We will see amazing acrobatics and magic routines under the big top
