∙ 9y agoThe goddess Athena was the one who deceived him. Zeus had decreed Hector's death early on as part of Achilles' retribution, so Athena's deception came in the form of Deiphobus, inspiring false courage in Hector and essentially sealing his fateful demise.

∙ 13y agoAthena holds a grudge against Troy because one of its princes, Paris, did not vote for her as the fairest goddess. This is why she attempts to work against Troy. Helping Achilles kill Hector insured the fall of Troy as Hector was probably the only reason it lasted for as long as it did.
