He was showing that society in Europe was disorderly by nature. It was often believed that if the world was entirely Christian then their would be no problems, but More satirized this using England (an island of Christians) and showing all of their problems.

More studied language and theology from childhood until he was recommended to Oxford by John Morton, Archbishop of Canterbury in 1492 (the year before Morton became a Cardinal). Having lived for a number of years and been heavily influenced by Morton, especially in Greek and Latin, and Latin being both the language of the Church (Catholic at that time) and of Academia, and especially due to More's legendary facility with Latin, More wrote a number of works in the language.
