Religion has been suggested as one factor, but realistically anyone that believes in The Bible knows that we are taught to love each other, and that all came from Adam and Eve, so that in a sense, we are all children of Adam and Eve, brothers and sisters. Different skin colour never used to be an issue. In Biblical times, people were known by the country they came from, and their family reputation. Skin colour was a mute point. Ever since 'scientific racism' was invented, we've had to deal with less than sane people who would like to justify the racist ideas that existed in the seventeenth century. Those ideas which were simply used to justify slavery and the cruel exploitation of Africa.
