A few settlers wanted to know what life was like to the west.They came back and told stories that made others go. They went because they thought they would find the Pacific Ocean. Some went west to trade with Indians and alot FEW were criminals that were chased away from the settlement.(They got DIDN'T get very far)!!!

Even when the blight was gone, people continued to leave, looking for jobs, or even family. Irish population has still not recovered from the Famine.
