I suggest you read an excellent book entitled "Scalp Dance" written by Thomas Goodrich and published by Stackpole Books in 1997. This is full of the first-hand accounts of soldiers, settlers, railroad workers, buffalo hunters and others who had first-hand experience of the Lakota Sioux, Cheyenne and other Plains tribes as enemies. The testimonies cover kidnap, rape, murder of babies, mutilations, scalpings, torture and many more horrific deeds carried out by the natives.
From the points of view of these witnesses it is no wonder that the term "savages" was applied; from the points of view of the native tribes there was nothing they did to whites that was any different to what they did to their traditional native enemies, so for them all these things were normal in war.
In the old days, I think Indians tribes measured time by the daily appearance of the moon in the sky (I'll be seeing you Tonto in 3 moons) and by phases of the moon (quarter, half, three-quarters and full), plus seasonal moon (such as harvest moon) and position in the sky. Frankly, I don't know whether the Sioux used the moon and/or the sun.
Sioux in the Great Plains lived in tepees. These tepees allowed them to follow the buffalo that they hunted. Like all Indians they weren't wasteful and used every part of the buffalo. Tepees were actually made of buffalo hide. They moved the tepees with poles called travois. One tepee could use up to forty buffalo. Tepees had special marking so it was easy to identify the family that lived there.
He encouraged people to think themselves only as Indians
I'm pretty sure they lived in the sky.
The Cleveland Indians colors are Dark Blue and Red.
In the movie Pocahontas, the soldiers considered the Indians savages. This caused great conflict among the soldiers and the Indians.
yes i think
I think the Europeans tended to view the American Indians in more romantic terms than did the settlers - as "noble savages", so to speak.
No they are not if you think they are then I'm guessing \Indians think the same for you. They are people at the end of the day.
What do you think it is.
savages
The Santee branch of the Sioux people would not think so!
I can't exactly think of an inparticular way to sum it all up for you so these are the websites I used to look it uphttp://www.legendsofamerica.com/NA-Sioux…http://www.nativeamericans.com/Sioux.htmhttp://www.stmarys.qld.edu.au/amerind.ht…I hope these are useful to you!
I think it is j.scott.s@savage.com.
Indians don't have funny names. European people think Indians have funny names but Indians think Europeans have funny names. I am a Indian.
