Although the coup was successful in getting rid of the monarchy for a democracy, it was a democracy only in name. The reign of Terror with Robespierre at it's helm was a time of great fear for the French citizens only to be followed by the military Dictatorship of Napoleon.

Polemics.

Nobody can say it was a failure, or a success. Without this episode, democracy in France would not be what it is now. I think it is wrong to try to judge History.

History is not right or wrong, good or bad with the good guys on one side and the villains on the other side.

Never forget that History is written by the winners. And only time can bring impartiality.

Fort Saint Louis, established by the French in the late 17th century near present-day Texas, was not a traditional fort because it lacked substantial defensive structures and military presence. Instead, it functioned more as a trading post and settlement for French colonists and Native Americans. Its primary purpose was to assert French claims to the territory rather than to serve as a fortified military stronghold. Consequently, it was vulnerable to attacks and ultimately fell into disrepair.
