- They were frequently not allowed to buy goods

- They were sometimes bullied, tarred and feathered

- They had their land confiscated

Basically, they were being treated unfairly so they left.

THE ANSWER BELOW IS WRONG by the community.In 1783 with the Treaty of Versailles Florida was traded Bahamas. This left 8,000 Americans displaced so the English government offered them vacant land grants in the Bahamas.
