The British navy boarding US merchant ships and forcing some sailors into serving in the British Royal Navy was a source of trouble. However, the British ended the practice before the Americans declared war, and it's fair to say the the politicians known as the War Hawks saw the impressment issue as an excuse to invade and forcibly annex Canada.

Equally, they saw a chance to attack the natives who were defending their homeland from continuing US encroachment. thereby allowing American settlers to expand westward. While the invasion of Canada was a dismal failure, the United States succeeded in undercutting the natives' attempts to defend their land.
