They are hiding and didn't want people to happen by and see them. Plus, Dally told them to stay in the back, and Johnny always does what Dally tells him.
Ponyboy cries in front of Johnny because Darry slapped him, and Ponyboy has never been slapped.
Johnny thinks that Dally is a hero .Dally doesn't have very good manners, so that's not why, but when something happens and Dally knows who done it, but he got blamed, he wouldn't tell on who done it. He would just take the sentence.
The cigarette that Johnny was smoking fell onto the floor while he was sleeping, which actually led to the church burning down. You can actually check out the scene in the movie on YouTube. You're welcome! :) I have no seen the movie, so I can't disagree. But in the book, the children playing in the church caused it. We were discussing it in class, and we remembered it said that johnny and ponyboy had smoke in the back of the church, but the fire had started in the front of the church, because the children were in the back. You also gotta remember that there were most likely matches in there, and children sometimes play with them and don't put them out. In the book Johnny wasn't at the church.-_-
The actual time they stayed was about 3 days before Dallas Winston( Dally) came to the old abandoned church. To kill time they played poker and read Gone with the Wild. After reading ch. 4-6, it shows a time length of 3 days.

A few similarities between the movie and book are that the movie still has the complete Greaser gang (Ponyboy, Johnny, Sodapop, Darry, Dally, Two-Bit, and Steve) and also Johnny and Dally still die in the movie but the movie begins with Johnny and Pony following Dally around town.when johnny kills bob and the rumble Now a few differences are that they dont have the court scene, Darry doesn't slap Pony he pushes him down; Pony isn't sick after Johnny and Dally die; the movie doesn't mention Mickey Mouse, (Soda's horse); Sodapop and Dally aren't blonds like they are in the book, instead they are brunettes; the church that Ponyboy and Johnny run away to isn't on a hill; when the church catches on fire pony and johnny doesn't save the kids in a hall way; randy doesn't visit Ponyboy after the rumble the book is a lot better than the movie because there is no detail left out and in the movie there's a lot . I have like 37 differences 1 is that the movie never mentions sodapops girl friend. They don't do acrobatic stuff off the porch. Ponyboy didn't fall asleep on Johnny's lap while riding the train. In the book Soda gives Ponyboy money (a check) Well in the book he didn't. Johnny never made a joke about Jerry about how fat he was. They mention that Marcia was from the south side instead of west side. At the beggining of the movie they never chased after those kids and picked on them in the book. Also the book was written in ponyboy's perspective and the movie was not the movie was written in everyone's perspective.
He went to the movies with Johnny Cade and Dallas Winston, but Dallas Winston left the movies after Johnny stopped him from making moves on the Soc, Cherry Valance, who was sitting in-front of them in the movie theater.
The climax of "The Outsiders" occurs when Ponyboy and Johnny are involved in a fight against the Socs that ends with Johnny killing Bob. They seek help from Dally, who gives them instructions to hide in an abandoned church. The tension increases as the rumble between the greasers and Socs approaches, leading to a final showdown that results in tragic consequences.
