The officers on the deck of the Californian, while watching Titanic's rockets, made the catastrophic conclusion that the vessel was summoning back her boats that might have strayed too far in the dark while fishing.
The Californian had attempted to send messages out warning of icebergs however, one of the radio operators was getting annoyed with the radio operator of the Californian as he was interrupting Titanics attempts at messaging Cape Race and told him to 'shut up'. The radio operator of California turned off his radio and therefore did not receive the distress call when the Titanic sent it out soon thereafter and went to bed. The Titanic had sent out distress rockets and whilst staff on the Californian did notice it they did not think it anything serious and did not follow up on it until about 5:30am - more than 3 hours after Titanic's final plunge. The SS Californian travelled through icy water (although it was said there was a more direct and clear route between their location and the titanic) to reach the location of the Titanic's sinking at about 8:30am. At that stage the Carpathia had already rescued the survivors and after communication between the ships left the Californian search the area for any other survivors. There were none to be found.
Titanic was the largest passenger steamship in the world when she set off on her maiden voyage from Southampton, England to New York City on 10 April 1912. The ship struck an Iceberg after 4 days on the voyage and sunk. S.S. Mount Temple took the call for help and went to the rescue. It was 49 miles from the place from the sinking site,
The Californian was estimated to be about 8 kilometres away from the Titanic when it sank. At that time Californian was stopped due to the fact that they had spotted icebergs in their path, and was waiting for daylight so they could navigate through them. The Californian Saw titanic Stress flares but thought they were fireworks so didnt help them out. Also they Turned off there Transmitter ilegaly so couldn't respond.
Yes Yashvant who has developed CdS nanoparticles also belong to a cetegory who responds motherland's call
Titanic sent out a general CQD/SOS call to any ship within the range of their transmission. The call was heeded by the Carpathia which was ~60 miles away. It would have been received by the Californian (~20 miles away) if their radio station had been manned at the time, but they did not receive the message until the next morning.
A citizen of the state of California is referred to as a Californian.
