There are two reasons for this. Firstly between 4 and 8 percent of French citizens are of partial or complete Maghrebi Origin (they have an ancestor from Morocco, Algeria, or Tunisia). Secondly, French from the south of France, such as the Niçois or the Marseillais have a Mediterranean appearance (similar to North Italians and Catalans) and dissimilar to Germans and Parisians). This Mediterranean appearance has many of the swarthier tones associated with Middle Easterners.

They look up everyone who entered, and take out the upper/middle class ones, then they narrow it down to the most deserving, and they pick randomly. So your telling me they have enough time to look up more then 70 million people and pick through only the middle class people then choose out of those????? Man that would take along time. And how do they go about it??? Do they look up everyones tax return and only pick through the people making more then $100k a year?? Come on now!! Google how they choose a winner and there are videos about how they choose a winner and it's very fair.

You could say that Cypriots are Asians or Europeans. You could say Europeans as Cyprus is part of the EU but I would go for Asians or Middle Eastern as Geographically Cyprus is in the Middle East next to Turkey Syria and Lebanon. Also both Greek and Turkish Cypriot culture share many similarities with Arab/Middle Eastern culture such as the dancing, food, music and even the people look the same. And as a Greek Cypriot myslef I would prefer to be called Middle Eastern rather than European. :)
One can find authentic belly dancers at various clubs and restaurants outside of the Middle East. One should look for these types of establishments that advertise belly dancing and are operated by Middle Eastern people.
