In Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol," Marley's ghost screams "Mankind was your business" to Ebenezer Scrooge to emphasize the importance of caring for others and being socially responsible. Marley is highlighting how Scrooge's selfishness and lack of compassion have caused harm to those around him and to society as a whole. The phrase serves as a powerful reminder for Scrooge to reflect on his past actions and to consider the impact he has on others.

The common welfare was my business; charity, mercy, forbearance, and benevolence, were, all, my business. The dealings of my trade were but a drop of water in the comprehensive ocean of my business!''
Marley represented the outcome of not putting mankind first
Marley told Scrooge that everytime Scrooge did something bad, a chain would appear. Marley had lots of chains, and he told Scrooge that he would have more if he didn't change. Marley also told Scrooge that he would be visited by three ghosts.
Jacob Marley died seven years prior to our first meeting Scrooge. Due to the way he treated people and put business above that of mankind he was doomed to walk the earth in everlasting torment
Nothing - he kept it there
On his visit to Scrooge Marley clearly tells Scrooge that his life did not move from the counting house meaning he worked like Scrooge for money at all times and that mankind and its welfare should have been his business
They were friends and business partners.
The Business was sometimes called Scrooge & Scrooge or Scrooge,Scrooge & Marley but it was really called Scrooge & Marley. So Marley was his business partner.
Scrooge and Marley were business partners in the novel "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens. Marley is now deceased but appears as a ghost to warn Scrooge about the consequences of his greedy and selfish ways. Scrooge ultimately learns from Marley's visit and changes his behavior.
This was Marley telling Scrooge that he (Marley) was allowed to come back to Scrooge to tell Scrooge of his inpending eternal life of torment should he not make changes to the way he lives his life now and sees mankind as his business not just the money he can get from them
