Because during WW2 Poland was utturly defeated (pikes vs tanks, ffs) and then commited little to no resistance vs the nazi occupier. After the war, however, Poland undeservedly received Silesia and Pomerania plus East Prussia - a German regions for 300 years with the majority of the population being Germans.
