Ok, this is when all the Whites hated the Blacks, (Candyman is Black). So Candyman was a slave, is real name is, Daniel. He fell in love with this White girl and the White girl fell in love with him. Then when all the people found out they were after Daniel. He soon found out then , when everyone caught up with him one of them chopped off Daniel's right hand. Then after that. They smuged his body with honey (which is how he got the name : Candyman. Then left him in a bee's nest, then when he was dying, he cursed that whoever calls his name five times, will be killed by him. Using his hook. I hope this is correct because I read his history.
The story went that a freed-slave turned artist had an affair with a white man's daughter. He had his hand chopped off, dipped in honey, and then he was stung to death by bees. That's messed up enough as it is. Well, apparently if you stood in front of a mirror and said "Candyman" a couple of times he would appear behind you and kill you with his hook hand.
