The REAL reason for this is that the LEGO Corporation lost its contract with DC Comics who own the rights to Batman. It was a corporate issue related to DC Comics' ideas of the value of the contract as well as the effect of the Lego sets on its brand itself (i.e. infantilising it).
LEGO seems to have a patern with these things. They discontinue a set line, then they make a video game for the line, then everyone complains about it like this!!! They have way to many new set lines to keep the ones that were GOOD!
The Indiana Jones series was discontinued back in 2010. There doesn't seem to be a reason as to why it was discontinued, and so far there hasn't been any plans for it coming back.
