Is not dry throughout South Africa, but the country has a small desert known as the Kalahari (to the west of the country). There are also large isolated dry areas in the country (Karoo areas), these are dry because of the altitude, but do receive seasonal rains. Some of South Africa has a tropical climate in the east like in Durban, Mediterranean weather throughout Cape Town and the western Cape and Johannesburg receives a climate with very cold dry winters and hot, rainy and humid summers. The country has diverse weather!
