Why is Canada so rich?

USA is a richer nation than Canada.
Canada is richer per person than the USA. Canada has way more resources and less debt. Canada also has lower taxes. Self employed people in the USA pay "self employment" tax of 17,000k on the first 100k of income (then federal taxes, state taxes, local taxes, etc.). Canada has comparable federal tax rates (though higher provincial taxes vs. state taxes), but nothing like the 17k self employment tax. Not only are Canadians taxed less, they have healthcare that is worth at a minimum thousands of dollars per year.

Our connection to the British Empire, which gave us a great bureaucracy, democracy, and a willingness to work for the common good. That combined with many Natural Resources and being located next door to the worlds largest economy has resulted in much of our wealth.
