China turned communist under Mao Zedong in 1949 because of Zedong's appeal to the peasant class to turn against Western ideas and imperialism. Also, the Soviets supported North Korea's takeover of the South to spread communism. the mere fact that the Western Empires avoided Asia and feared interfering with the super power soviets fostered a spread of communism and independence
