The topography of eastern and western Canada differs in that the eastern Appalachian Highlands are not so tall or so rugged as the Rocky and Coast Mountains of the west. The eastern regions of Canada contain highlands that were once mountain chains. The forces of running water, ice, and wind have worn them down over millions of years. The east coast is rocky and indented, which provides good harbors for fishing and sea travel.
The Rocky and Coast Mountains on the West Coast are taller and much more rugged. In the west, geologic processes are still currently forming the Coast Mountains through crustal movements as well as volcanic action. These activities have been occurring for millions of years and are continuing today. Thus, with the Coast Mountains, geologic forces are causing the landscape to be uplifted. In the Appalachian Highlands, different geologic forces are causing the landscape to be worn down. The result is the tall and rugged Coast Mountains in the west and the rounded hills of the Appalachian Highlands in the east. The same geologic forces that are working on the Appalachian Highlands are also eroding the Rocky Mountains. At this time they are still rugged, however, because the Rocky Mountains are younger than the Appalachian Highlands and the processes of erosion have not had sufficient time to have an effect.

The lowest temperature ever officially recorded in Canada and in North America is -63 °C (-81.4 °F) on February 3, 1947 at Snag, Yukon. Most of the population centers in the east are located near large bodies of water (Toronto, Hamilton, Montreal, Quebec City, ect). The water releases the heat it has stored and creates a warmer climate in the winter.
In the summer however the west holds most of the hottest temperatures.
Heat waves of over 40 °C (104 °F) have repeatedly swept through towns and cities in southern Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and the driest regions of British Columbia.
Now if you have ever lived in the country you would have known that these low temperatures would have been higher than the western of Canada!

The reason why is that usually the northern parts of the world are the coldest except for Antarctica ( of course coldest place in the world). And if you look at a map of the world Russia and Canada are northern then the UK. Mostly what are the coldest placest in the world are Canada, Russia, Sweden, Antarctica , Norway, Iceland and Greenland with Alaska are the coldest place. So there for this is why Canada and Russia are colder than the UK because it is northern and we get more colder weather than the UK. ( I know this because i am Canadian.
