Why is it important or necessary that Creusa dies?

Creusa the daughter of Ceron died in Medusa's bid for revenge.

Creusa the daughter of Erechtheus did not die; by Apollo her son was Ion, Achaeus and Dorus and Diomede by Xuthus: mother of Cephalus by Hermes.

Creusa, daughter of Priam and Hecuba, was the first wife of Aeneas and mother to Ascanius (also known as Iulus) as her family leaves the home, Aeneas carrying his father and Ascanius holding his hand, while Creusa is to remain some distance behind them. As they flee through the city, pursued by Greeks, they reach the gates and begin to run, after noticing that the Greeks appear to be gaining on them. Creusa is unable to keep up with them.

After reaching Ceres' temple outside of the city, Aeneas leaves Anchises and Ascanius there to go back in search of Creusa. As he searches the city without success, he meets the ghost of Creusa, who tells him that she may not leave the city with him. She predicts his journey to Hesperia, Italy and future marriage to another. She asks that Aeneas take care of their child and vanishes. Aeneas tries three times to hold her, each time failing to grasp her wraith.

At the end of the play 'Antigone', Theban King Creon loses his family, friends, home and job. He goes into exile as a most miserable beggar. His successor is Theban King Laodamas, the son of Theban King Eteocles and the grandson of Theban King Oedipus. Laodamas remembers Creon's previous support to Eteocles in the deathly royal struggle between the twin brothers Eteocles and Polyneices. So Creon subsequently is allowed to return during Laodamas' rule over Thebes. But he ends up dying during an attack on the city.

In contrast, it's unknown what happens to Ismene. The only suggestion comes from a source that contradicts her participation in the events of the play 'Antigone'. Mimnermus [flourished 630-600 B.C.E.], a poet from almost two centuries before Sophocles [496 B.C.E.-406 B.C.E.], says that Ismene dies by Tydeus' sword during the siege of the Seven Captains against Thebes. This is the very siege in which Eteocles and Polyneices die. It also is the very reason why Antigone and Creon battle over how to treat those Thebans such as Eteocles who die loyal to Thebes, as opposed to those such as Polyneices who die disloyally.

In suppport of Mimnermus' version is a Corinthian amphora from about 560 B.C.E. An amphora is a large jar with handles. It shows Tydeus holding onto Ismene's right shoulder with his left hand while he readies his right hand to kill her with his sword.

It's significant that the jar is from Corinth. Corinth is the place where Ismene's father, disgraced Theban King Oedipus, is raised in the misbelief that he's the son and heir apparent of Corinth's childless sovereigns, King Polybus and Queen Merope. So Corinthians may have been more aware of the fates of Oedipus' children. Oedipus was their first choice as king upon Polybus' death. So they may have been diligent about tracking the whereabouts of Oedipus' children, as possible heirs to the throne of Corinth.

In "The Aeneid," Creusa dies during the sack of Troy. Aeneas speaks to Creusa's ghost at the end of Book 2.
