Continential drift.
The world used to be one big supercontinent - Pangea.
It cracked up and started drifting apart..if you try to put South America & Africa together, it fits just like a jigzaw puzzle..so do a lot of other continents into other landmasses.

It was because of fossils that scientist found.
South America extends further south than Africa.
Africa has more countries than South America. Africa-53 South America-13
South Africa is a country in the continent of Africa, therefore Africa has a larger area (about 30.2 million km²) than South Africa alone (1,221,037 km2). South Africa contributes to about 4% of the total area of Africa.
Technically west, but the quickest way would be to head south-to-southwest, crossing over into a general north-to-northeast. Basically, you shoot straight going over Antarctica, near the south pole.
Why is South America and Africa moveded apart?
The separating plates literally means, when the plates such as Africa, Europe North America, South America etc. start moving away or apart after millions of years.

No. Africa is Africa. South America is South America. South America is South of America. Africa is east of South America
Continental Drift is an old style name for Plate tectonic movement. The major continents of the world appear to drift about. It is thir underlying plate that is moving. The classic example is Africa and South America. They appear to fit together like pieces of a jig-saw, but they have drifted apart to form the Atlantic Ocean. The underlying tectonic plates of Africa and South America are actually moving. Africa northwards into Europe and South America westwards into the Pacific Ocean.
So the direction and speed of plate motion is measured with the assumption that the Africa plate is stationary. Using this standard North and South America is moving west away from Africa.
moving in a circle in the south atlantic ocean, between south america and africa
no africa is its on continent. south america is the continent south of america.
South America
South America and Africa are separated by the South Atlantic Ocean.
The equator passes through northern South America, central Africa, and extreme southern islands of Asia.
