Madam C. J. Walker was famous because she was a pioneer of the hair care products industry during the early twentieth century who also became a philanrthropist and anti-lynching activist. She was a patron of the arts who supported African American artists and a philanthropist of provided scholarships at many blacks schools and colleges. She also contributed money to the NAACP, the AME church and other black organizations.
