The reason why it was appropriately named is because it was set up to blockade the foreign trade routes of the South. The anaconda does the same kind of thing when they are hunting prey they corner and then they strike and wrap around their prey.

The significance of the Anaconda Plan was to cut the Confederacy in half and destroy the weakened armies after liberating the city ports and eliminating the importation of good that region depended on.

Anaconda wasn't a battle.

It was the joke-codename given to the original war plan put forward by the General-in-Chief Winfield Scott, which everyone thought was far too slow and ponderous. (They all expected it to be a quick war.)

But in the end, this was very much the strategy adopted by the Government, based on long-term blockading of the ports and denying the enemy the use of the Mississippi. That is why the Confederates ended up barefoot and starving.

An anaconda is a snake that squeezes it's prey to death. So the North

wanted to squeeze the South so they could stop their ships from sending in goods.

Why was Northern success in siege of Vicksburg important?

Northern success in the Siege of Vicksburg was important because the Union had a plan called the anaconda plan. The anaconda plan is when the Union planned to cut the Confederacy in half. By doing this, the Confederacy would not have any way to obtain (get) supplies (food, clothes, weaponry, etc.) When the siege of Vicksburg was a success, the Union was able to carry out the anaconda plan since the Mississippi River is in Vicksburg, and by taking over the Mississippi River, that split the Confederacy into two.
