The Acadians came from Arcadia an ancient region of what is now the country of Greece and they were not removed by the British.

Acadians can also refer to french colonists who settled in Canada maritime provinces. Acadia was a distinctly separate colony of New France (and separate from Quebec). When the French were at war with the British the British took over Acadia to prevent the French colonists supporting France. When the people would not take an oath supporting the British, the British administration deported approximately 11,500 Acadians from the maritime region to prevent them aiding the French.
